counter regulatory hormone

Firstly Counter regulatory hormone are those which help the  body to be in homeostasis means a normal serum glucose level 94 mmol/L to 6 mmol/L )should be maintained in between meals.
Counter regulatory hormone are the catabolic hormone which breaks down fat or muscles to release energy when body needs.
Catabolic hormone function just opposite to anabolic hormone

EXAMPLE :- CORTISOL ,GLUCAGON etc

These hormone will be absent or occur in very less amount when body has adequate amount of glucose or blood sugar because when there is glucose a anabolic hormone insulin is released by body to  utilise the glucose present in blood stream.(anabolic hormones means building hormones i.e fat building or glycogen building )

When body is in starvation mode or body is experiencing a serum glucose level below 4 mmol/L (also called hypoglycaemia) a catabolic hormone  i.e glucagon and cortisol  is excreted by the body for it's survival. These hormones satisfy the body need of energy even when the person is not ingesting adequate amount of calories thus the body will rely on it's own store of energy and nutrients.

These hormone may breakdown fat store and even muscles and organs if starvation continues and nutrients like amino acid are needed. The stored energy can only be made available through several mechanism if these catabolic hormones (i.e glucagon)are present in the majority.
